The Brook Has Dried, Now What?

Hey y’all, I was having a conversation with a friend about how unexpected endings can happen so suddenly. You do not see them coming; they just arrive, and God allows them. The question becomes, what do you do with all the thoughts that rush into your mind? Often, what holds us back from moving forward is our need to understand the why. Why did this happen to me? Why did I have to feel this pain? Why did it end? Why did I lose that job? Whatever your why may be, you cannot let it stop you from moving forward.

“Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” So Elijah did as the Lord told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.”

1 Kings 17:2-7 NLT

I think about how God called Elijah to a specific place, sustained him there, and then when his time in that place was complete, the brook dried up. Our lives can look the same. We may be called to a position, an assignment, or a season, and then the favor and grace for that place begin to fade. The opportunities close, the resources shift, and suddenly we find ourselves facing a dry brook. If we are not aware of the season changing, we can end up staying where God no longer wants us, trying to figure out the why instead of being obedient and moving forward. Sometimes, we do not get answers for why things end the way they do. The brook dried up, and that means it is time to keep going. What brooks in your life have dried up that you have yet to release? The enemy cannot cancel your calling, but he can distract you and cause you to waste valuable time. I also want to add that there are people behind you who need you to move forward from your brook. If Elijah had not moved forward, he would not have been able to help the woman and her son from dying of hunger, and so many others who needed him to move.

I pray that you remain encouraged and keep moving forward, even when questions linger. Press forward and trust that God has already prepared the next step. Be blessed and be a blessing to someone today.
