Hey y’all, I have been reflecting on something that has become very real for me in this season of my life: a good thing at the wrong time is still the wrong thing. Let me explain. If you receive a large sum of money but do not have financial discipline or maturity, you will mishandle what has been given to you. We see this often with people who win the lottery and, within a few years, find themselves back in financial trouble. I was recently presented with a wonderful opportunity that seemed in alignment with my goals, but my plate was already full. I had just completed a major transition, moving from the West Coast to the East Coast, along with everything that came with such a big change. Just because an opportunity comes my way does not mean it is from God or meant for this season of my life. I know that if I trust Him, doors will open that exceed my expectations. The one I almost walked through could have distracted me from my devotion to Him, taken away from my time with my children, drained me emotionally, and even pulled me out of alignment with His will. I have come to a place in my finances where I no longer chase a paycheck just for the sake of having one. This is not to diminish those who must do whatever it takes to sustain themselves and their families. As for me, God has blessed me to live in a way where I can depend fully on Him to provide every need.
“And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 AMP
As I thought more about finances, I asked myself a question that I also want to challenge you with: If you could make a set amount of money per month, what would that number be? I had to sit with this because the enemy loves to use the illusion of more. If I only had more time, more money, more friends, or more resources, then I would finally feel fulfilled. But that is an illusion, and it will keep you running in circles searching for joy in things that cannot sustain you. Real fulfillment comes from Him. I pray that we will not jump at every opportunity just because it is available. Instead, may we trust God even when we cannot see what is ahead, knowing that He always has greater for us. We must believe that what He desires for us is far more than anything we could imagine for ourselves.
I pray that we would not only focus on providing for ourselves, but those whom God has placed in our lives. That we may freely receive and freely give and be a light to those in dark places. May we be blessed and be a blessing.
