It Won’t Always Be Like This

Sometimes we wake up with the weight of yesterday because we wake up face-to-face with the wait of yesterday. What I mean by that is, when you’re in a season of life where you’re waiting for circumstances to change, it’s easy to carry that heaviness into each new day. Yes, the day has changed, but the burden feels the same. Maybe it’s bills, lack of support, grief, or some pain in between. I woke up today feeling that weight, but I had to speak to myself and speak to my circumstances. That mountain has to move because I said so and I have the faith to believe it will. Even if I don’t yet see the physical manifestation, I will continue to prepare and make room for what I’ve been praying for. Because sometimes, when you least expect it, everything shifts and the window of opportunity opens wide.

“Yahweh , your God, is inside you. He is the Warrior-Savior who takes such delight in you that it will make him leap for joy and shout with great gladness. Yes, he will soothe you with his love. He will sing over you his song of praise.”

Zephaniah 3:17 TPT

This reminded me of Mephibosheth in the Scriptures. Quick backstory, Mephibosheth was dropped as a child by his nurse. The accident left him crippled for life. Years later, King David sent for him and brought him to his royal table, not because of anything Mephibosheth did, but because of a promise David made to Jonathan, his father. You can read more in 2 Samuel 4 and 2 Samuel 9. I bring up Mephibosheth because many of us, like him, are still living with wounds caused by those who were supposed to protect and care for us. We’re navigating hardships that weren’t our fault, circumstances that were placed on us: poverty, addiction, single parenthood, betrayal by the church, abandonment, or the ache of doing life alone. But look away from your circumstances for a moment and hear me clearly: this is not how your story ends. You will not die in this place. I speak that over your life, and I declare it over mine. Every promise God made will be fulfilled here on Earth.

“(Saul’s son Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth, who was crippled as a child. He was five years old when the report came from Jezreel that Saul and Jonathan had been killed in battle. When the child’s nurse heard the news, she picked him up and fled. But as she hurried away, she dropped him, and he became crippled.)”

2 Samuel 4:4 NLT

“His name was Mephibosheth ; he was Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson. When he came to David, he bowed low to the ground in deep respect. David said, “Greetings, Mephibosheth.” Mephibosheth replied, “I am your servant.” “Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?”

2 Samuel 9:6-8 NLT

Mephibosheth more than likely believed his life was over and that his circumstances would never change. I’m sure he believed he would just be dependent, discarded, and forgotten. The grief of that must have been crushing. Yet, God placed him on the heart of a king. Just like that, he went from the shadows to royalty. Years of pain can twist how we see ourselves. Mephibosheth called himself a dead dog. Lifeless, unworthy, and dehumanized by his experience, by life. But even in those feelings and unchanging circumstances, God still moved. He sees us beyond our brokenness, beyond our scars, beyond our current state. So, may we be ready when God says, Now. Everything can change in a moment. You ready?

“For he enjoys his faithful lovers. He adorns the humble with his beauty, and he loves to give them victory.”

Psalms 149:4 TPT

I pray that our focus would be on God, trusting and depending on Him. Keep your hearts soft and do not allow life and people to take away your light and your love. Keep believing, having faith, and if you cannot do anything else, just stand and see God turn the tables in your favor. Be blessed and a blessing.
