It’s easy to slip into pessimism and call it realism, but let’s choose hope instead. Let’s believe that today won’t be just another Monday. I’ve been reflecting on the idea of “the right fit.” While it can apply to so many areas of life, I’ve been thinking about it in terms of identity. Nothing exposes an identity shift quite like going shopping for the first time in a while. You catch yourself mid-aisle thinking, Wait…what even is my style now? Who am I in this season of life? Just like we can’t wear winter clothes in the summer, we outgrow old outfits, old trends and, symbolically, old versions of ourselves. That’s what evolution looks like: shedding, stretching, discovering. Maybe this is the moment to ask yourself, What have I grown out of? And who am I growing into?
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV
This brought me to a familiar passage in 1 Samuel 17:38–40. When David prepared to fight Goliath, King Saul offered him his royal armor. David tried it on, but it wasn’t his fit, literally or spiritually. He had never fought that way before. Out in the field, he relied on a sling and stones, not heavy armor and swords. He knew he had to stay true to how God designed him to move. It’s a reminder: you can’t wear what was never meant for you. You can’t win your battles in someone else’s identity, nor can you shrink into society’s mold. You will change, your values, your voice, your vision. I am embracing that fully now. A teacher, liberator, poet, an author, and so much more. I’ve outgrown the boxes others placed me in, and broken them entirely. What are you wearing that doesn’t reflect who you are at your core? It’s okay to change and evolve.
“You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!”
Psalms 139:13-14 TPT
